Trythall Primary School has been at the centre of education for the children of Newmill and surrounding areas since it was opened in 1877.
It is a popular school for 2 - 11 year old children providing high quality education for children from not only Newmill but surrounding villages and towns including Penzance and Zennor. Our families travel from far reaching corners of West Cornwall because they believe that our ethos aligns closely with their values.
Pupils stay at Trythall Primary School until the end of Year 6 (aged 11) and then they transfer to local high schools including; Mounts Bay, Humphry Davy and Cape Cornwall.
Although priority for admission is given to children within our catchment area, children from other areas may be admitted. In order to ensure the provision of effective education and the efficient use of resources Cornwall County Council has determined that the number of pupils that may be admitted in the relevant year group is 10 (published admission number).
By law, your child reaches compulsaroy school age at the beginning of the term after the one in which his or her fifth birthday falls. In Cornwall however, most children start school earlier than the law requires. At Trythall Primary School all children who become 5 during the school year may start full time in September.
How do you apply for a place at Trythall Primary School.
Starting school in Reception
The parents of ALL pupils seeking a place at Trythall Primary School, are required to complete a Cornwall Local Authority Common Application Form (PA1), by the closing date.
This can be done online www.cornwall.gov.uk/schooladmissions
Once your child has been offered a place by Cornwall County Council we will write inviting your child to join us for preliminary visits (prior to admittance in the September). We also invite parents to an information session in which we outline arrangements for Starting School, talk through a typical day and answer any questions.
When there are more applications than places, children are admitted in order of priority as determined by Cornwall County Council’s Admission Policy.
Transferring your child to Trythall Primary School at any other point of the year
Where families with children of school age are moving into the area or wish to transfer their child to our school, parents should contact us at the earliest opportunity. Throughout the year places sometimes become available as families relocate out of the area.
The Headteacher or secretary will be able to advise you on current places available in each year group.
If you would like to apply for a place at any other time in your child's education the link you will need is:
